The Great Wall of China

We chose to visit the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall as a daytrip from Beijing which involved taking a cable car up and a toboggan back down! The toboggan is perfectly safe with a brake controlled by the user so even the most fearful (me) can ride happily back down.

Walking the Great Wall can be hard work on a hot day but thankfully there are plenty of vendors all along the wall selling cold soft drinks and beer.

The Great Wall is an amazing achievement and needs to be seen to be believed. Mutianyu is about 70 kilometres from Beijing and was an easy day trip with a private car and driver. There are also many tours available but we preferred being in charge of our day and not having to ride on a bus.
