Night market On our first evening in Hua Hin we visited the night market where we ended up having dinner. It was pretty similar to other night markets we've been to in other towns in Thailand with the usual offerings. P was thrilled with the seafood available.
Hua Hin pier
We went into downtown Hua Hin fairly early one morning and wandered around until we found the pier. There were lots of restaurants on the various piers although most were closed. We did manage to find one open cafe where we had a cold drink and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings. When we went back one... Continue Reading →
Khao Takiab beach, Hua Hin
Because our resort was north of town and didn't have a great beach, we decided to head south of town and see if we could find a better one. We were lucky to find Khao Takiab beach and a small hotel and restaurant where we were able to park ourselves for the day.
Bikan district – Kurashiki
We caught a train from Okayama out to Kurashiki to visit the Bikan historical area. We always love seeing historical areas which have been kept in their original state. The Bikan area has looked the same way for hundreds of years. It's a great town to visit just to walk around and relax and enjoy... Continue Reading →
Bali

Six popular Bali bars
We stayed in Jimbaran and Seminyak for ten days one Christmas but found the weather too windy to enjoy all of the bars we had so been looking forward to visiting. Still, we made the best of it and here are our findings. The Ayana clifftop bar As Rock bar proved too windy for us... Continue Reading →
Takayama
We spent two nights in Takayama during our cherry blossom trip to Japan as we had heard there were some attractive old buildings and that it was a foodie's delight. Both tips proved true! We caught a shinkansen (bullet train) to Nagoya and then travelled on to Takayama via a regional train which criss-crosses a... Continue Reading →
Hua Hin railway station
Hua Hin is where the former Thai King used to spend summer holidays, travelling there by train. This pretty little station is worth a visit.
